Back in the late 19th century, American author Mark Twain was one of the first prominent American authors to extensively write about their experiences abroad. At the time it made his name and made him a bestselling author. Now, 150 years since Twain wrote "The Innocents Abroad," American writers such as Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Baldwin, and Stein, have become synonymous with American expatriate life. For American Identity Special, we will be discussing how these American writers wrote about life outside of their homeland, how the perception of Americans abroad has changed changed over time, and about tourism and its future.
