Teacher Training: Task-Based Learning

A four-part teacher training workshop

As teachers we first and foremost need to know our students. Their interests, needs, goals, personalities, and learning styles are all of paramount importance for us to know if we are to be of any assistance in helping them improve their English language communication skills. But ultimately we also need to have a good grasp on the parts of speech of the English language if we hope to nurture nuanced understanding and fluent usage of them for our students. In this workshop we will take a closer look at modals, phrasal verbs, vocab strategies, and assessment, and reflect on how our teaching of certain parts of speech can be adapted to satisfy our students holistic learning needs.

Session 8: Task-Based Learning

In this session we’ll explore the criteria, goals, and structure of Task-Based Learning (TBL). In keeping with our experiential-learning approach we will ourselves complete a group task, and reflect on the ways in which it could best help stimulate our students creativity and collaboration, as well as facilitate their language use and development.
