An Exploration of Appalachian Culture

America House Kyiv proudly presents an evening about the Appalachian region and culture of the USA. The event will be the kick-off event for a weekend of Appalachian music and dance events hosted by Benya Stewart and made in partnership with dance school Zachepyha, America House Kyiv, and the Ivan Honchar Museum. Appalachia is a cultural region defined by the eastern mountain range that run from Georgia and Northern Alabama in the south all the way up through the northern edge of Maine. It’s a land distinguished by coal mining, timber extraction, and often the dominance of Scots-Irish immigrants. 

The event will feature a documentary screening on the unique mountainous region and culture of Appalachia, a short Q&A session, and a performance of Appalachian music from Benya Stewart and Olha Sterneichuk.  

About performers: 

Benya Stewart, a musician hailing from Athens, Ohio, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachians and Olha Sterneychuk, a singer from the wood plains of Naddniprianshchyna, south-central Ukraine. 

When? June 13, 6:30 – 8:30 PM.

Doors open at  6:00 PM.

Where? America House Kyiv (Mykoly Pymonenka 6).

Attendance and participation are free because all opportunities from America House Kyiv are free. You just need to let us know if you’re coming by registering for the event in advance. We’ll save you a spot and keep you posted about any changes. 

The event will take place at America House Kyiv (Mykoly Pymonenka Street 6.) Please familiarize yourself with the rules of admission before your visit. Remember to bring your passport or driver’s license to enter America House Kyiv.
