Join us for ‘Bridging Cultures: Dialogue Between the United States and Ukraine’ at America House Kyiv to connect with the hearts of Ukraine beyond passports! This event will be a captivating exploration of cultural connections between the United States and Ukraine.

Dive into an enriching cultural exchange as we journey through the experiences and perspectives of our speakers - Rachel McVey, a former missionary turned voice actor and editor; Helen Garbuz, a community leader in Kyiv; and Zachary Nelson, a Ukrainian language advocate and Program Director at a local non-profit in Cleveland, Ohio. Don't miss this chance to hear their stories and insights on fostering understanding between our nations!

About the speakers:   

Rachel McVey arrived in Ukraine in 2016 as a Christian missionary but found her footing unexpectedly in Kyiv's underground culture instead. Starting her career at UATV, Ukraine's first international news broadcaster, she is now a voice actor and pursues visual arts as a hobby. Rachel is also the editor of a book, "Innovation in Isolation: The Story of Ukrainian IT, 1950s-Present Day", slated for publication in May 2024 by Sky Horse Publishing House. 

Helen Garbuz moved to Kyiv in 1998. She was the Kyiv Program Hub Director for the US State Department funded FLEX High School Exchange program for almost 10 years. Currently, she is a mom, President of the Kyiv International School's Parent-Teacher Organization, and on the Board of Overseers of the charity organization IWCK (International Women's Club of Kyiv). 

Zachary Nelson lived and worked in Kyiv for four years. He worked as an editor for UATV English until 2020 when he moved back to the United States to earn his master's degree in Translation. Since 2020, Zachary taught himself Ukrainian and started a TikTok channel promoting Ukrainian language content online. He currently works as a Program Director for a local non-profit in Cleveland, Ohio, where he assists immigrants and refugees from Ukraine adjust to life in the US and advocates for assistance for Ukraine 


The event will take place at America House Kyiv (Mykoly Pymonenka Street 6.) Please familiarize yourself with the rules of admission before your visit. Remember to bring your passport or driver’s license to enter America House Kyiv.
