Black Sea Speaker Series: The Impact of Climate Changes on the Black Sea Coast

The American Spaces in Georgia, Ukraine and Bulgaria invite you to a session of our hybrid-format Black Sea Speaker Series on April 18. Please join us for a presentation entitled: “Climate Changes, Fluctuations of the Black Sea level and their influence on the human presence on the Western Black Sea coast” with Professor Dr. Preslav Peev, the Head of the Marine Geology and Archaeology Section at the Institute of Oceanology within the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

During the presentation you will explore how various environmental factors have affected human settlements and activities along the Western Black Sea coast over time, and gain valuable insights into how to mitigate the impact of climate change.

The Black Sea Speaker Series is a regional, hybrid virtual initiative of the U.S. Missions in Bulgaria, Georgia and Ukraine to educate youth leaders and emerging voices about key opportunities and challenges impacting countries on the Black Sea. Through digital & in-person American Spaces platforms, audiences can engage with American and local subject matter experts on a range of topics of strategic importance. More about the speaker:

Professor Dr. Preslav Peev is the Head of the Marine Geology and Archaeology Section at the Institute of Oceanology within the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Scientific secretary of IO-BAS. Dr. Peev’s field of research is geoarchaeology, marine archeology and history, marine and coastal geomorphology. He is the author or co-author of more than 80 monographs and scientific articles. Dr. Peev has been a participant in a number of national and international expeditions in the Black Sea.
