“A Home We’ve Built” is a compilation of written works from Ukrainian and international writers who participated in the 4th cycle of the America House Kyiv Creative Writing program.

The program launched on February 2nd. On February 24th, Russia launched its full-scale war against Ukraine. After a brief hiatus, the program resumed and continued running virtually to completion in August 2022. This exhibition showcases works created by Ukrainian illustrator Yuliia Nikolaieva specially for this publication.

Through eleven unique stories and four additional short pieces, this book offers a glimpse into life during and in spite of war. The stories explore the process of finding your home and show that even during such dark times, it is still possible to experience moments of hope, love, and joy.

The “A Home We’ve Built” exhibit will be on view at America House Kyiv from August 17th until November, 2023. The exhibit can be visited during events at America House Kyiv with pre-registration.
