Please join us for an exciting informal chat session with our special guest – Mario Montoya, U.S. Embassy RSO. America House will open a new exhibit of photography, which will present photos of his home state, New Mexico, and his family story of achieving the “American Dream” – starting off in extremely difficult circumstances and working hard to get an education and eventually pursue a career as a U.S. Diplomat. If you want to know more about stories behind each photograph or about the American Southwest in general, please join.
Learn more about the exhibit here: Unseen America: Southwest.
Here is some interesting information about Mario:
“My photography is record of the world I see around me. I have climbed pyramids in Egypt and Mexico and floated down rivers in the Middle East and Asia. I was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, but I have lived in six different countries. I recently moved from Baghdad, Iraq to Kiev, Ukraine. I studied political science and international relations in college and graduate school. I began seriously taking photographs 8 years ago and I do not plan to stop. A major component of photography is access. Access to people, places and events that most people do not have access to. Through my photography, I seek to give others access. Though I am not a journalist, I find inspiration from photojournalists and travel photographers from around the world. There is nothing more fascinating than the world we live in and I hope to share it with other people.”
Remember to bring your passport or driver's license.
