4th International Contest “Stop Censorship! Citizens for free countries”
An exhibition of the best works on the special theme “Corruption is…”
In 2016, an International Contest “Stop Censorship! Citizens for free countries” was organized the fourth time. The Contest unites different creative practices. One of the specialities of the Contest is its democratic rules. Thus, anyone regardless his age, citizenship or education can take part in the Contest.
Traditionally organizers accept works that are relevant to such topics as freedom of speech, access to public information, fighting censorship. In addition, participants can submit their work, dedicated to a special topic of the Contest.
Taking into consideration public demand, organizers decided to make slogan “Corruption is…” as a topic of the Contest in 2016. Ukraine as many other young democracies appeared in a situation when reforms are delayed. The main obstacle on the way of successful development is corruption. Freedom of speech, critical thinking, joint actions of citizens addressed towards control of the government can bring changes. Analyzing problems, especially with the language of images and open dialogue is the first step on the path of changes.
The exhibition in America House comprises of chosen works (Images) of Ukrainian and foreign authors dedicated to the special topic of the Contest: fighting and criticizing corruption, relevance of the access to information and anticorruption practices. Overall, 570 works submitted to the Contest by the authors from Poland, Canada, Italy, Mexico, Iran, Venezuela, Ecuador, China and others. People from 89 countries followed the Contest. Виставка найкращих робіт спеціальної теми конкурсу «Корупція — це…»
Міжнародний конкурс «Стоп цензурі! Громадяни за вільні країни» у 2016 році відбувся вчетверте. Конкурс поєднує активізм та різного типу креативні практики. Його особливістю є демократичність — участь може взяти кожен охочий, незалежно від віку, громадянства, освіти.
Традиційно на конкурс приймаються роботи, тематично пов’язані із захистом свободи слова, доступу до публічної інформації, протидії цензурі, а також присвячені спеціальній темі року.
Зважаючи на суспільний запит, цьогоріч такою темою стала «Корупція — це…». Україна так само, як і інші молоді демократії, опинилася в ситуації, коли реформи буксують. Основною перепоною на шляху успішного розвитку є корупція. Свобода слова, критичне мислення, спільні дії громадян, спрямовані на контроль за владою здатні змінити ситуацію. Осмислення проблеми, в тому числі мовою образів, та відкритий діалог — перші кроки на шляху сталих змін.
Виставка у Американському Домі складається з обраних робіт українських та закордонних авторів з розділу «Зображення» саме на спеціальну тему — критики і протидії корупції, взаємозв’язку доступу до інформації й антикорупційних практик.
Всього на конкурс надійшло 570 робіт, українських та іноземних учасників, в тому числі з Польщі, Канади, Італії, Мексики, Ірану, Венесуели, Еквадору, Китаю та iн.
